iOS Mail – Swipe to Delete instead of Archive

If (like me) you use an iPhone along with the stock mail app, you might want to swipe to delete rather than archiving messages. This took a bit of digging to find on iOS 7.

To change it to swipe to delete:

  • Open settings
  • Click on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
  • Choose the account you want to change the behaviour for
  • Click on the email address (again). This is the screen where it says “Mail”, “Contacts”, “Calendars” etc
  • Scroll down and click “Advanced”
  • Change “Move discarded messages into” to be the “Deleted Mailbox”
  • Click to go back to “Account”
  • Make sure to click “Done”, not “Cancel”

Your should now be able to swipe to delete 🙂
